Forest Preschool & Wild Wednesday Application

Aloha families. We are thrilled you are interested in your keiki joining us for nature exploration and forest play, gardening, art, music and so much fun and learning! Before filling out an application, be sure to take a look at our What is Forest School page to learn more about our outdoor-based forest school programming to make sure its the right program for your child.

Please fill out this application form below to confirm your interest and days you would like your keiki to attend. Once you submit this application form you will be contacted to arrange a tour of the program site. (Please note that the Tues/Thurs program is at Kaye Family Farms in Honomu and the Wild Wednesday program will be at Hāmākua Harvest in Honoka`a.) Once you have taken the tour and you think that the Hāmākua Forest School is right for you and your child(ren) you will receive a registration form and directions on how to submit payment for tuition.

I understand that Keiki O Kahawai - Hamakua Forest School requires active parent participation and support at home. We want our keiki to be as healthy as possible and that includes a healthy environment at school and at home. I will make sure my child is well-nourished and well-rested every day. I understand that the school "curriculum" is experiential, child-led and seasonally- and nature-based. KOK-HFS is child-directed and includes music, art, social interaction and exploratory play. I am aware that KOK-HFS is totally nature-based, and children will be outside in all weather conditions, except severe weather conditions. I am committed to providing my child appropriate clothing for the weather conditions. I understand that KOK-HFS is NOT appropriate for children who do not follow instructions. Children will also be allowed an unusually wide range of physical experiences including going to the bathroom outside. I understand that the admissions process includes a site tour for parents and children to attend together to determine if KOK-HFS is a good fit for everyone before final enrollment forms are signed. I understand that this application is NOT a contract, and I will expect to hear from KOK-HFS to register my family for a tour of the program site at Kaye Family Farms. And if all spaces are full, my child will be placed on a waiting list.
